OUR STORY
We Came: For over a decade we visited and supported local breweries in Michigan while experimenting with our own home brews.
We Saw: The craft beer industry was full of flavor, community, and creativity. The passion that brewers, owners, and staff put in creating a unique experience was refreshing. What we didn’t see was diversity and things that spoke to the culture that we represent.
We Cultured: Black Calder Brewing Company was established to make great beer and provide a platform for innovation, art, culture, and inclusion through collaborations in the craft beer industry. As a Black Owned Brewery, our craft will be Brewed for the Culture, but our motto is simple. We make dope beer for dope people and always do it for the culture.
OUR BEER
Black Calder Brewing Company (BCBC) will offer a variety of beer styles focusing on imperial stouts, barrel and wood-aged beers, fruited ales, kettle sours, IPA’s, lagers, and craft ciders. As we grow will explore distilling and crafting wine for our non-beer drinking fans. The (Purchase) link below will redirect to Broadleaf Local Beer for purchasing.
Fade to Black Lager | ABV 4.3% | Available NOW
FADE TO BLACK is a crisp 4.3% Black Lager that is light-bodied and high in drinkability. It pours black with a subtle kiss of malt flavor that exudes very soft notes of roast and chocolate, without sacrificing the refreshing quality of traditional lager.
Prince Hopkeem | ABV 7.2% | SOLD OUT
Prince HopKeem is a 7.2% Hazy IPA brewed with Honey, from the Ghana rainforest, and African Queen Hops. Just like the opening of The Lion King, your nose will scream “Nants ingonyama bagithi baba Sithi uhm ingonyama” when it’s hit by the fresh aroma of African Queen & Amarillo Hops. Your taste buds will yell GOOD MORNING, MY NEIGHBORS! As the combination of the hops takes them on a vibrant safari of fresh orange, berry, stone fruit, and melon flavors. The Ghanaian honey finishes this Hazy IPA off with a touch of the Motherland, as the residual yet subtle sweetness hugs the palate giving you a smooth mouth feel.
CRAFTLANTHROPY
“True philanthropy requires a disruptive mindset, innovative thinking, and a philosophy driven by entrepreneurial insights and creative opportunities.”
-Naveen Jain
We are committed to creating opportunities and giving back to our local community and globally. Our Craftlanthropy ™ Initiative will seek opportunities to support education, social justice, hunger, clean water, and other meaningful causes that will make Humanity Dope Again!
We are privileged to be able to turn water into Dope Beer. Today we supported women and children in Tanzania that are living under physical torture; walking 20 miles for less than 5 gallons of water. Through our giving, we were able to make water available for a family in Tanzania for two years. This will be one of many of our “Craftlanthropy” moments.
Our motto is simple – Make Dope Beer for Dope People – Yet our hearts are huge and complex. Since we received so much support and love, we wanted to return some of that love and support back into the universe. BEer the light in the dark. ❤️✊🏿
ART
We Cultured. This section is designed to provide a space for underrepresented artists in the craft beer industry to showcase artwork that can be featured as beer labels. It is 100% free for artists to upload images and tell their stories. We encourage every brewery in the nation to contact these artists and purchase images directly from the artist. We welcome artists and brewery owners from every background, creed, and gender.
CULTURE
Black Calder Brewing Company believes culture goes beyond color, race, or creed. It’s the DNA of life and we respect it as such. As we celebrate, cherish, and highlight the things special to us in our culture, we promise to always be unapologetically proud, black, and represent to the fullest.
